I was wondering if there were any plans to support Chromecast in the Smugmug/Smugfolio mobile app? Our kids love to look at pictures and video on our TV, and this would make it super simple.173 voteskelly responded
March 31, 2015: I’ve updated this request to reflect this is for the iOS app. Our Android app has this functionality and is complete. Our iOS app can support casting however at this time it requires using additional Casting Apps.
Casting to a TV is supported as follows:
- iOS: Not natively through the SmugMug iOS app. Chromecast apps with export extensions like “PhotoCast” can be used in conjuncture with the SmugMug app to “Export to Cast” for display on your Chromecast device.
- Android: Chromecast support is built into the Android SmugMug App (starting w/version 3.1.12).
- Amazon KindleTV / KindleTV Stick: The SmugMug app can be downloaded to your device.

Auto background upload feature in SmugMug app that uploads all pics from iOS or Android device to a private, default album like Flickr, DropBox, & Google+ apps already can. After setup/allowing, those apps don't require any interaction from user to manually initiate uploads. They just do it in the background (over cellular data as an option too) whenever a new photo is taken/added to the camera roll. SmugMug is an archive location for so many of us. Why doesn't this feature exist yet when it does for so many other apps?131 votes
The iPad app is great for showing my portfoloio, but it would be great if I could have clients order prints from directly in the app.86 votes
I would like to see some features in the mobile app. There is actually no way to search for tags/keywords/person etc. This is really annoying if you have thousands of photos which are all properly tagged. Even flickr and the synology ds photo app have this feature (and of course many more) in their app. I think its great that smugmug has an android app, but if this is version 3 and there is so little to do, maybe the apps should get some real love ;)82 votes
The iPad app is gorgeous but it really needs an option to display captions. Narrative-style galleries are just useless without them. Thanks!79 votes
The mobile app is missing many obvious features:
- Ability to buy prints from the mobile app
- Ability to organize galleries and edit photos from the mobile app
- Ability to see and edit bio, etc, from the mobile app
The mobile version of the site in the browser has some of these features, and yet it keeps popping up with an ad for me to use the app instead, which does NOT have these features. You shouldn't be pushing a mobile app instead of the site if it doesn't do most of the things that the site does.59 votes
I'd like the ability to work off-line on my iPhone (or whatever phone) and add comments and a title about a photo. When I'm finished, I would then connect & sync with the SmugMug service.
Syncing like this would also allow us to manage our site from any device.30 votes
Our Android app will allow you to “Edit Photo Details”, which lets you change the title, caption, or geolocation of any photo. We’ll also be adding this to our iOS app at some point in the future, though I don’t have any details on when that will be released.
Our Android app now also allows you to Edit Gallery Settings, which can also be done on iOS devices using the mobile web (Safari); iOS support also coming at some point in the future.
It would be very helpful if the filenames could be displayed in the iPad App. This would be very useful when showing photos to clients to know the filename of the photos that they are selecting. The iPad provides a perfect platform for displaying photos to clients and prospective client, this feature would greatly enhance the App.27 votes
I would love to see a way for guests to upload pictures to a gallery via the Smug Mug APP.
I have a Mother In-law that has guest access to a gallery on mine but she cant upload her photos from an event that included us that she took with her IPhone. instead she has to download them from the Cloud and then manually enter them with the guest upload URL. this seems a bit complicated for something that seems could be an easy development fix.
Is there a way the Development team could integrate that into the next update/patch?26 votes
I prefer the look of the SmugMug app to the iOS Photos app for viewing images but I often find myself in areas where data coverage isn't great and would like to be able to pull up my SM galleries on my iPad or iPhone without needing to have a data connection.
Currently I have to go into each gallery one at a time and select it for offline viewing. The old SM app had the capability of syncing all galleries at once.
Please add capability of syncing all galleries with a single function.22 votes
So I really love the mobile app for showing clients and family photos on my site without having to log in using the web browser on my phone or tablet. One feature that is missing as a business owner is the ability to get to my selling settings on the app. (Pricing, sales, coupons, etc.) To access those I have to log into the web browser which is not meant for mobile devices, and today people are always on the go. It would be a great feature to add to the app or create an additional app for pro users to access these features. My biggest thing is seeing my sales. I get the email on who bought how many pictures, but I then like to access the sale to see what pictures they bought and look back on other sales. Just a thought!

Now that the smugmug iOS app works on the Apple TV it would be great if a gallery could be selected as a screensaver - either from within the app or the Apple TV settings.
While downloading the images to a linked desktop would work that limits the flexibility in choosing a gallery for a screensaver.17 votes
A dedicated app not a camera app. Something like a twitter for photos. you can look at trending photos or follow photographers. also you can keep an eye on your photos and reply to comments people have made on your photos.12 votes
The smugmug website plays GIF clips in the gallery. Are there any future tweaks to allow the IOS AP to be able to play GIF clips in the IOS gallery/slideshow? This would be a great add on for me. I automatically upload my photos and GIF clips during my photo booth sessions. I then use an ipad to play the IOS ap slideshow on tv screens. Currently, the GIF does not play on the ap, it just shows a still shot. Only on the website version of Smugmug plays GIF clips.11 votes
Currently, I believe all public galleries are subject to sharing by anyone logged into the Apps, even if sharing is turned off. This enables downloading and printing as well as social sharing. Reducing the size of the photos you display and watermarking can reduce the quality of the downloads, but I would prefer my potential customers see a large image. Also, I would prefer to control who obtains my images, and this is not currently possible. The option to turn off sharing through the mobile apps should be added.9 votes
There is no option for photo delete in iPad app. Single or bulk photo delete option is necessary to remove wrongly uploaded photos or if we want to remove few photos from gallery9 votes
Right now, when uploading images through the SmugMug iOS App only the "All Photos" and user created folders are presented - all the iOS provided folders (e.g. Favorites) are not available. This is very painful as using the Favorites is a very integrated part when working with images on an iPhone.
Additionally, almost every other App is offering the native iOS folders for selecting images, so: implement/use the iOS integrated folder selection for choosing images when uploading pictures through the SmugMug App.8 votes
It would be great to support launching of the SmugMug app for browsing galleries when someone follows a link to a gallery in email or on the web. This can be accomplished if the app were enhanced to exploit iOS 9 Universal Links.
I would find this enhancement very useful for sharing photos with family and friends, particularly if combined with support for accessing unlisted galleries and sharegroups in the app.

Mobile app needs organization features. Keywording, categorization, creation and organization of albums. These are things people want to do on a mobile app. I nearly switched my whole family over last year, but the fact that a user can do ZERO organization on your app...deal breaker. Is this something on your roadmap? Should I hold my breath...or just pick another service?6 votes
Allow the download of multiple images from the SmugMug mobile app. Currently, you can only download one image at a time.5 votes
