I suggest you ...

Make a gallery style that is blog-like...

We already have the journal style, but let's have one that looks just like a blog. Add one picture and then allow title, text, date, time, etc so that it looks just like a blog entry.

meh, too late for this. SmugMug has hired a huge team of developers (that apparently need a new project manager), raised their prices, and spent a couple years producing nothing new other than promotional blog posts of their own and cross-sales with 3rd parties like SquareSpace. I gave up on waiting for SmugMug to add real customization that would allow us to use the site for anything other than selling photos. I use SquareSpace for my landing page and blog needs.

We need a way to incorporate a blog within the same URL as my SmugMug site. The current solution is to create a seperate site on Word Press and then, for example, use SmugMug for galleries. This is not a good solution since it requires a great amount of additional time and it requires dependency on an additional support group at WP. I am surprised that SmugMug does not recognize the importance of having a blog format but instead sends our business to other companies like WP, GoDaddy and Photography Blogsites. SmugMug needs a blog format!

We really do need a blog attached to the SmugMug galleries. Typepad has good-looking clean blogs and we also have a Typepad blog, but it costs us an extra $149 per year, plus our yearly fee with SmugMug. In today's online culture, a blog is critically needed to stay current.

Maybe they get some kind of kick back from NOT offering their customers a blog-like gallery style...it would make life so much easier! The idea of creating an entire account somewhere else and then combining it with my existing SmugMug site just to have a blog is daunting.

Almost a year and still "planned"...

Can't be hard to make up a theme that runs like a blog, looks like one, serves as one. Just need a proper heading, and then dated text plus photo entries, above the photo folders.

I managed to do it very roughly with the default theme at onlygoodphotos.com

Just give us a little more to work with.

        750 comments! Come on guys.

Actually, why not just give us a choice to use WordPress as a front end?

I get annoyed every year around smugmug renewal time that no one is taking this seriously. I used to have my photos on Shutterfly and left for various reasons but I am tempted to go back because of their simple yet functional "journal" tab which is a simple blog with one picture, title, date, time, and the nicely visible "likes" and "comments" on the bottom of each entry. Is it really that hard to add this? I also love Shutterfly home page which is like a Facebook news feed page with recent photo additions, recent comments etc. and ability to comment on every single entry there. Afraid to even start dreaming about something like that on Smugmug... I am planning on leaving Smugmug for this reason.

I think this is a great idea. This way people would not have to leave my site to go to my blog. I would use this for my travels and such, (and they could purchase the photo in the blog). I am not fond of the journal entry - thus why I only used it for my bio. To see an example of how I would use the blog, go to:

        http://developingview.blogspot.com

(Of course not every entry type would appear here on my smugmug site)

This feature request is in the pipeline for almost 3 years now. I will not continue with SmugMug and cancel my proAccount and try to find me a service that will provide me with a simple possiblity to set up a blog page.

Honestly, I am having post-purchase dissonance because of this. At this stage, I don't think I will continue with SmugMug after my one year subscription is up. Perhaps I should have done more research into this during the 14 days free trial - took it for granted that it should be easy to do. Unfortunately...

I agree with Amy Kubik as well. I am thinking about figuring something else for showcasing my photos as well. I wish smugmug look into this request seriously and have some cool template to showcase photographs.

I agree - I am really needing a blog and would prefer the blog be a part of my smug mug website, rather than having to link to an external site. I joined smugmug to ensure I had a secure way of running my website.

I'll agree with Amy. I used to keep a simple blog on MobileMe via Apple's iWeb application, but that functionality is going away when Apple shuts down the residual features that now defunct service.

I'm already paying for a SM Pro account and I would hope this would be enough for at least a simple blog gallery style. A few advanced features would also be welcome.

I have been thinking (sadly) of leaving Smugmug all together this year for this reason... it's themes no longer compete with the vast variety of simply and beautifully designed blog sites with templates. They are long overdue on updates in this area. To not have a theme that looks like a blog post for this long is no good.

Looks like this has been on the books for a long time. I would love to see this. Either a SmugMug blog or a way to integrate an existing blog (Wordpress, Blogger, etc). So many successful photographers have blogs on their sites and is a big part of their business and marketing. I am surprised it is not part of SmugMug yet. I hope it gets added soon!

this feature request is on status planned now for more than two years. Will it ever be implemented?

      • Tico ShooterTico Shooter commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I already have a non-photo blog on Blogger, which is free and can be effective for a photo blog - just look at the success of Strobist. I would love a SnugMug blog capability, but would want full functionality - internal and external links, blog archive, etc. I would gladly upgrade from power user to pro for this.

      • GerhardGerhard commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Could we please have an update on progress of this feature request. Its in the queue for a long time and blog style entries are very important for me.

I would like the option of just one page to do this. It would be sweet!
