let us have a self-fulfillment print order capability
SM's fulfillment is very swish. Problem is it's only valid for US people - printing costs and lead times make orders for EU customers prohibitively expensive.
I know several other would like this feature, and like many others, I've been playing around with paypal payments (there's a good thread on dgrin about it). Problem is, well, it's paypal and doesn't give the photographer / seller the option to view an order before receiving payment.
Google has a far better order processing system, but doesn't support logistics; a third party shopping cart is required and that costs money!
So, why not open up SM's excellent print ordering system so that SM members can receive an order via email and manage the fulfillment themselves? :)
Being based in the UK, I'm not losing out on people not being able to buy my photos easily and because of that, I fear I may cancel my SM renewal because it's a real showstopper for me...
Heroes need to consider adding self-fulfillment features. The convenience of walking to my local printer and receiving my photos within hours or a day or two is priceless. The added cost to my clients is really an inconvenience. Please consider.
Have a choice to print myself. Australia is not supported by your labs, except at excessive shipping prices.
You have gift cards but amazingly can't see anyway to sell gift vouchers or gift photo experiences online to customers in different values i.e £25, £50, £100 etc.
All the options to print are nice and uniform...however as 'artists' we may have something unique to offer that currently can only be offered by adding a paypal button within gallery..it would be nice and more client friendly to be able to 'type in' a product for sale.
to please allow photographers to use their own print labs and let them fill their own orders
I would like to be able to print my own images for sale. My friend uses Zenofolio and she says they allow it. Smugmug would still get a cut for handling the sale.
When personal delivery is set up, I would like to be able to add my own Selections and Pricing to the Porfolio Pricing and be able to add that to a package. This would eliminate many other requests to add this or that from BayPhoto (like dog tags or keychains or mugs) that are not currently offered on the pricing menu. If allowed to add these manually, I could put "Paint Photo on side of Cow: $150" if I wanted. (sorry PETA- this is just an example) and also make this part of a package. This would be a HUGE benefit to those of us that need items that are not on the list.
I would join in a second!
and price we want. That way if we have some special product unique to us we can offer it thru the shopping cart and SM still gets their cut.
An independent shopping cart is required of the photographers choice and currency ie in the UK... So that we can print our own images the way we like to print them. As some one who has is own printing machines I do not need any one to print my work... www.walterjamesphotography.co.uk
Currently we only have the offerings from the partnership of Bayphoto and Smugmug unless I overlooked something. There are countless other products that my business offers such as license plates, name tags, metal cd cases, logo design and etc through other labs and personal creation. It would ROCK to be able to add my own custom products and either they complete themselves or even just being able to set it up for purchase of these items from my Smugmug and I self-fulfilling. Also being able to sell session fees and etc. Thanks!
Add a button in the shopping cart, so that when customers have added everything they want to order, they can select the "e-mail it" button, and it shoots an e-mail with their order to the Pro.
I would like to be able to add self-fulfilled items to the cart through SmugMug. This could include sitting fees, charges for CD/DVD disks of the images, DVD slideshows that I create, etc.). Thank you for the consideration!
This should be easy Smug Mug... or are you more interested in squeezing a little more cash out of the labs you promote? You charge enough as it is and call my account a "Pro" account. How about giving us this "Pro" feature?
1700+ folks want it... Are you listening?
I've been waiting for this feature for ages and it is still not implemented to date. If smugmug is not going to do something about it then i might have to look elsewhere although i've been with smugmug for quite awhile :(
What up with not offering this service? I have to go to Zen Folio? I am a loyal Smug Mug user. You're great. I want to have another site to sell photos that I print and sign and send to clients. Please make this available soon. Unless you're afraid to lose the lab business you set up---hmmm, that has to be it.
Well, charge us a little off the top or something.

I am a long-time SM customer but I can't live without self-fulfillment any longer. It's a shame, too, because I do thousands of dollars in sales every year and I don't really want to move. But I can't get certain items through the SM partners printing services. At least, not at a competitive price. So I'll be gone after this year is up unless they change this. Even if we had to implement our own cart, I'd be okay with that.
Yes self fulfillment is on my list as well. Please with sugar on top.
YES YES YES! Self fufillment is extremely important to my business and I'll eventually move on from Smugmug if it isn't implemented. I'd like it set up similar to Etsy where artwork on various mediums can be sold and self fulfilled. This would make smugmug websites much more appealing to all artists, not just photographers.

Add me to this list as well. Love what's going on here so far but this is desperately needed. I want to be able to sell my own custom prints made by me in addition to what y'all currently offer.

If they do not offer self-fulfillment I will need to move to another option at some point.
It appears that this post was put up in June of 2009 and there is still no indication that SmugMug is even considering the suggestion. This will be my last annual subscription to any SM account because of the lack of the above stated option. SM is a good way for your business to gain exposure but does not give you the best tools to succeed. Thank you for the wonderful service you have provided to date.
@alex: Wow, you have some stunning water photos. My favorite might be the "Mount Martha jet ski fun" photo! The features on our Portfolio plan would allow you to directly sell your photos to your viewers. Is the problem that there's no print lab offered in your country?
I am getting more requests for prints via email but I fear that I am losing many more inquiries from those who simply don't contact me. While SM has many great features I feel I will need to look for an alternative to fix this problem
I would love self-fulfillment I too am Canadian and this would be much better for my business.

I have my own Giclee printer I use and plan to start doing my own printing soon. I also need self-fulfillment of orders using SM cart. Also looking at Zenfoilo because of this reason. Wake up SM!
I tried embedding PayPal cart buttons into my gallery, but it didn't work. Anyone else??

I'm trying the SmugMug printing in the 14-day trial in the UK. The price for a 6x4 print in the UK from Loxley Colour is more than seven times the ezprint option for US users.
Without more printing options, and self-fulfilment, I can't see how starting a business with SmugMug is viable. My customers would just think I was ripping them off.

SmugMug makes money off of our orders. That is why they don't allow it.

I am a professional from Brazil and i do my own fine art prints. This is a must! Plz make it available for us asap. Thank you!
Print and shipping cost are WAY higher with SM and I either drop my profit to almost nothing or loose people that want to buy pictures.

I'd love to see this feature, but it's really disheartening to see that this idea's been around for almost half a decade and SmugMug hasn't acted on it...
