I suggest you ...

Allow an optional proof delay on Digital Downloads

Pros would be able to set a proof delay on DD's. As it is now if a customer orders a DD they get whatever is uploaded even if it's an untouched proof. Wouldn't it be nice to approve images before they're pulled down?

I also take hundreds of photos at my shows and I can't edit each one. I understand I can add a printmark to the digital photo but I have no control over where the printmark is placed and how it looks. I know most clients will just crop off the printmark in the corner of the photo...I used Exposure Manager for almost 10 years and I could edit and provide an updated version of the ordered photo with any order option. I think I will have to disable the digital option until this is fixed!

I take hundreds of photos at events. I do NOT want to edit every one of them before uploading. However, post processing to fix things is part of my price for a high res digital download. I NEED a proof delay. It fares negative that SmugMug does not offer this service. It has the photographers wondering if you discourage the digital downloads due to the fact that you make more profit from prints than digital downloads. I have paid for a year, top tier, for Smugmug, but now I am looking elsewhere to put my business, if this is not corrected.

This would be very helpful for photographers who take thousands of images at sports events. This way we don’t have to go through every single picture and edit them before posting them.

Ridiculous that this STILL isn't an option. Andy says people want photos NOW. Well, yes, they do. But it should be up to the photographer like EVERYTHING ELSE is

I don't sell digital files through the site because I don't have the option to look them over before they are released.

I don't see why this is not an option. I can easily take hundreds of photos at an event. I upload them as "proofs" but I really don't expect that my customers are going to understand the implications of that. OTOH I simply cannot take the time to post-process all those photos, not knowing which ones someone might want. This works fine for prints, for which I can specify a delay. For a digital download I have to apologize to the customer and e-mail corrected files after I've received notification of the sale. That's silly.

I just had a customer download an entire gallery for under $5 by accident! I have no idea how that happened and I would love to think this cannot happen again. I would really appreciate the option to approve downloads for this reason and the simple fact that I would like to check the image for fine details before it's released.

Please please make this happen! We don't want untouched photos out there. It isn't good for us photographers and your lab would benefit as well when we brag about you!

It's many years since I asked. This is the ONE nagging flaw, I've been so happy with smuggy otherwise. I simply will not release a proof and replace it later with a prepped copy. My customers aren't sophisticated enough to avoid using the original file, and it's anathema to have it out there.

Please consider including digital downloads in the "proof delay". I don't edit ALL the images in the galleries...but edit as the orders come in...BUT...you let the digitals go with no proof delay allowing the customers to obtain less than wonderful versions...

I really wish you would allow proof delay, at least on the high resolution digital downloads. I'd prefer to upload a small jpeg for proofs so I don't have to process photos unless sold (and save dramatically on uploading times). But it makes me nervous that the high res digital downloads will go with no processing. I'd love it if both the web size and high res dowloads had that option, but especially the high res. Most of my folks now would actually prefer to have downloads rather than prints.

I am completely unhappy with the company I'm currently with. DD Proof Delay is the only thing that SmugMug is lacking. I would gladly go back if this were added. Your customer service is SO much better, it would be worth the extra cash!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this feature. My number of digital sales has dropped dramatically since I've started using proof delay (because digital download is not on the price list, no one knows it's available).

      • Sherry commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I am also stunned that this feature is not already in place for pros. We really need proof delay for digital downloads!!

      • Shawn M. Knox commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

For those that say you can just send them the files separately, yeah sure, that works but it isn't very professional. If a client orders digital files they except to have the highest quality they can get when they're notified that their files are ready and I would too. This is very amateurish. Unfortunately, this is what we're stuck with. This has caused me to reassess smug mug and potentially look for another option when my year is up. Also, they really need to change the name of the company. Catchy yes . . . professional? Absolutely not.

This is definitely a feature Smugmug HAVE to add. Especially since that whatever pricelist you have setup can transfer to any new gallery and photos you add to your archive. I didn't know I had selling setup on my photos until I receive an email that someone bought a photo of mine for commercial license...for $1 !! Not cool.

        Hi. What's up? Seriously. Hello?

SmugMug rocks. I love it. My site looks awesome and gets great SEO.

I'm writing this on Easter so I'll put it like this: "I'd love to have all my eggs in one basket." But until DD proof delay is available, I'm using a separate site for my ecommerce. Just let me know when this gets added and I'm 100% back on board. I mean, you know... 0% commission would be sweet too. But my hold-up is DD proof delay.

I am this will be addressed. I can't see a reason why it would not be an option. Considering the amount of downloads I sell, this is a deal breaker for my business.
