I just trialed Smug Mug and would love to commit but not having access to a Canadian photo lab is definitely a deterrent. Please consider adding a Canadian lab.

I have been a SmugMug client for a few years now and with the recent increase in monthly fees, i'm feeling forced to go to another provider. I have had clients contact me mentioning that the cost of shipping is too much so they cannot place an order through the SmugMug system. I've been able to get them to provide an image number, then get them printed and send them myself. This is becoming an inconvenient process and i feel that i am losing potential orders. SmugMug, we do LOVE you, but please...assign a Canadian lab ok? I'll buy you a Timmies coffee :-)

I hate to sound so resentful, but seems like a typical American Company.. not caring about their Northern neighbours at all. How long have we been asking for this?

Not sure why there is an issue adding a Canadian lab...would be GREAT for us Canuks who love Smug Mug!

We are a lab in Vancouver Canada and would like to suggest to SmugMug to ad our printing facility for Canadian customers

Yes, please, a lab in Canada! Currently we're waiting a month for delivery, with shipping that costs more than the prints ... so much could be improved for us! Thank you!

The number of votes really doesn't matter - there are plenty of other requests that have been approved or begun or implemented with far less votes.

I really think that SMUGMUG has not intention of having a CANADIAN PRINT LAB - probably made a deal with the American labs to limit competition. So we Canadians are left with not being able to take full advantage of the site.

ZENOFOLIO is looking better and better all the time - although they don't have a Canadian Print lap they do have self fulfillment option that is a very nice compromise.

You know I can take it if SMUGMUG has made a business decision to now have a CANADIAN lab - I just wish they would say it. Stop stringing us along.

I would luv to have this option the main reason I left years ago, I would sign back up today if they get a Canadian lab

SmugMug and other providers such as collages.net are missing out on a huge professional market here in Canada. Maybe not offer all the press printing products but the basic lab stuff like prints, mounting, canvas, etc.

I hope something will happen soon cause it's sad that we are missing out on dealing with big companies like this for our online selling

I do have a SmugMug account, which I love. However, I too have been hoping for a more affordable printing option for Canadians. Thus far, I have not put in a printing order for any of my photos. Recently, I was thinking that I should print some photos, but I feel "stuck" when it comes to SmugMug. I just won't put in an order. I would really love an affordable printing option!

I just got an email back from Smug Mug when I told them I wouldn't purchase Smug Mug Pro because they don't link with a Canadian lab. They said to cast my vote here! So they are paying attention to this. Spread the word! Let's get Canadian photographers to vote here. Vote at the top left corner where it says "Vote". I can't believe there have only been 497 votes since 2009! Come on Canada!! Let's get Smug Mug to link with a Canadian pro lab!

Definitley bringing this market to Canada, it would be a huge desire for lots of ppl and a great success no doubt, let's expand and offere this service here, you won't regret it :)

I think it would be very worth it for Smug Mug to add a Canadian lab and they are currently missing out on hundreds of thousands of Canadian dollars in revenue! In smaller communities, the only option for clients are the one-hour kiosks! Many people are just not computer saavy, and don't know how to upload high resolution images to a pro lab. Far easier for them to just go to an online album, click what they like, and place their order. I believe Smug Mug is missing out on a huge market from their Canadian neighbours. I am putting some feelers out to see if we can get a Canadian company to offer a package similar to Smug Mug Pro. It would be a valuable service to all Canadian photographers - amateur and pro! For now, I won't use Smug Mug because the international shipping charges are prohibitive and quite frankly is a "turn off" for my clients.

Unfortunately I am unable to utilize the online printing and shipping options available through smugmug, as i find the shipping costs more than what the client is willing to pay, for single prints. It would be very beneficial if smugmug partnered with a Canadian based printing service, that would provide a more economical solution.

To bad there is no Canadian lab. I understand it prob isn't worth it. Would have set up an account if there was one. Fingers crossed for the future...

As others have said I don't promote online print sales to my potential Canadian clients. It is very easy to ship cross border, but it's the huge cost issue. I do have a great Toronto based fine art printer LePix, but I would love to have the online process work in a way that a customer could order a print and it would get shipped directly to them without my intervention. I think many posters over-estimate the size of the Canadian market and I am thinking that the margins on this type of business may be too small given the small size of our market to implement a service that caters to the wide variety of print services clients want. That being said maybe a limited print menu for Canada or different labs for different purposes i.e. fine art vs wedding or commercial. Some type of solution would be better than nothing?

And it won't be - stop holding your breath - sorry!

      • FrostyFrosty commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I can't believe that there STILL isn't a Canadian lab. I keep checking back on SmugMug's website to have a look and see if this basic obstacle has been addressed, but no. That's such a shame.

      • baroobaroo commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

RST - tell your friend about zenfolio - they don't have a canadian lab but they do have self fulfillment - at least then you can still market your work via your website and then handle the printing yourself.

It is a terrible that it's taken this long to add a canadian lab - my only guess is that there must be some deal with the american labs prohibiting smugmug from signing up a canadian lab - and if that's the case we will never see one.

a Canadian Lab will never happen.
