I suggest you ...

Better (Bigger) Home Page Gallery Images

I like having all of my galleries listed on my photo home page (http://photos.jasondunn.com) - but the thumbnail images are ridiculously small. Looking at them on a 24" inch, 1920 x 1200 monitor, they're barely more than 1 inch by 1 inch! That's not easy to see, especially if an image has a lot of detail in it.

Please give us an easy, non-hacking-CSS way to chose from a few different home page layouts with different gallery image sizes. I'd be perfectly happy myself if the layout stayed basically the same, but the gallery images got 2x to 3x bigger. I like square thumbnails inside a gallery, but on the front page of my site, I'd like to see 3:2 images instead.

A bigger image, and some nice descriptive text (more space for text to display is a part of this request), would go a long way toward making my photo page more vibrant.

It is discomforting to see that this was posted by Jason in 2009, and has been listed as planned since 2010. We're almost halfway through 2013. Is there any update on when this is planned for release?

Come on Smugmug... it's almost 2013 and I have yet to see this implemented. The gallery thumbs are still far too limited. For instance, I hate having to choose between all thumbs being equal size (using Square thumbs) or getting nice 3:2 (landscape) oriented thumbs, but having them all be different sizes. It screws up the alignments.

Yes, please let us change the size of the thumbnails. 100x100 is TINY! And it looks ridiculous, especially if you have only 6-10 categories....

I agree to let us control the size of the thumbnails. I was notified of some web-thefts via screen prints. from my site. Therefore I had to institute an even more obtrusive watermark.

Please add my vote for adjustable thumbnail sizes (I'd like about 250 pixels for some things, smaller for others) on the home page and elsewhere. Ideally we should be able to crop and size thumbnails with full flexibility (apparently some cropping control is present already).

These auto-resizing thumbnails, especially on the category/gallery list pages are killing my design. 150x150px is just about okay for my design, but the moment I add 6 galleries, the size of the thumbnails goes to 100px wide and the whole design goes wild.

Please allow us to set this size manually ourselves through an option for each category/gallery page or set it with CSS, rather than taking the control away from us. Or just let me have the larger 150x150px option that I can force, regardless of the number of galleries. As a pro user, this is important to me.

I was just told by a top Hollywood agency that the thumbnails were too small, and that they would prefer we use another service. Please give us the option to present larger thumbnails, thank you! - Brad

Please! Jason had it right with the resolution and size of the thumbs and its hard to swallow. Hope we can sort this out soon!

I agree, the thumbnails are so small. Please give us a way to enlarge them even if its a Small, medium and Large option. Thanks Smugmug you guys rock. Jeff

YES YES YES YES Please, it looks horrible with those tiny thumbnails on the homepage. I've showed my site to at least 20 different people who have all said the thumbnails need to be bigger on the homepage!! Would make it look more professional and less like family albums.

This definitely needs to be addressed..there are ways around it but for what us pros pay for a subscription...this should be better supported...

Agree, thumbnails are way too small & we should have the ability to choose the size we'dlike displayed. Planned, but for when??!!

Really why would I have to look through so many emails to find out how to find my facebook pictures that are missing. I did find that I am not alone. So why does't Facebook put out a memo to all of us and tell us where they are or how we can find them. With out pictures why would we need facebook. Peggy

I mentioned this in a related feature request already, but since this one is planned :-) I'd love to see the default crop area for square thumbnails of portrait orientation photos to be the upper portion rather than dead center. Perhaps not the very top, maybe leave out the top 10% or so. As it is, I am getting a lot of heads chopped off.

For what it's worth, I am a refugee coming from a competitor who does it this way and I can count on one hand how many times I've needed to re-crop a square thumbnail, since 2006.
