PRINT IN AUSTRALIA!
[Admin note: expanding original request to include all requests for printing in Australia, regardless of lab]
Great eco printer: http://finsbury.com.au Beautiful, quality printing! Eco printers in South Australia. I had my catalogues for an art exhibition printed through them a few years ago and they are perfect.
Often people ask where they can buy my work, and I send them to my smugmug but feedback often comes back that postage is too high and why should they pay so much for postage ?!
I suggest Smugmug opening an Australian Print Lab as there isn't one anywhere down this end of the world.
We would luv you at Smug Mug to open a print lab in Australia so I can offer prints directly to my customers through smugmug. Any changes of a new lab in Australia ?
Coming from Sydney, Australia, I'd much rather (and will) go with a site that allows me to send my prints to my preferred lab for cheaper costs and faster delivery to clients
Check out PhotoShelter which allows us to do that - http://www.photoshelter.com/vendor-search
I know i have made contact in regards to postage before, i am just wondering if there is someone i can talk to in regards to finding and Australian affiliated photo lab. I am having families tell me they do not want to purchase photos due to the shipping fee. I really love your site and feel there is nothing that compares if i was to change and really really seriously would love it if you took this idea into consideration and action soon.
If there is a head manager/ owner i could speak to in regards to this matter, i would really appreciate being forwarded onti them.
Thank you for understanding
Your silence on this issue is quite offending. Please let us know what you are doing about it. We need to print in Australia... Now
We require the option of using a photo lab in Australia - it is just ridiculous that we have to wait at least 3 weeks for our products when using the US labs. This is a critical issue as to whether I can continue using Smugmug for selling photos here in Australia - my customers just won't wait that long.
Whenever I have been selling prints my customers have pulled away from the option of using the SmugMug system, due to the inconvenience and extra cost that are high of the order being fulfilled on the other side of the of the world. So people are just buying downloads and doing there own printing over here in Aus.
One way around this could be for SmugMug to partner with a Australian lab, so prints were charged and shipped from within Australia, reducing the shipping costs and in return keeping the clients happy.
Biggest drawback to a great product is lack of local (Australian) lab/s.
Adelaide/SA specifically for me.
Find an Australian printing company so that our customers are not paying International shipping rates. Or allow customers to place an order with us so we can fulfill it using a local supplier.
It would be better for us in NZD if we could sell images in our own currency and a printlab that is widely used in NZ would be great for us too :)
Having to order from the US is off putting to us on the other side of the world! I would really love a lab based in Australia if that's possible.
Cost of postage is too high from the USA and also the extra time this requires is a turn off for clients. Also displaying the prices in USD is a big turn off for Australian clients.
Can Smug Mug find a partner to service prints to customers in Australia, New Zealand or other Asia Pacific countries? This could round out the capability for us to make world wide sales.
Cannot migrate SmugMug until you have an Australian printer. The Edge is a pro lab in Melbourne that prints constantly for the top photographers in the country including for their competition prints. Brilliant Prints in Brisbane are also an excellent consideration. Please add an Australian printer to get some more Aussie customers.
Just weighing up who to use for my pro website. Sm looks best option but I need an Australian printer or self fulfilment

The Edge Photo Imagining are an Aussie company and they collaborate with WHCC, could this be an option? Beautiful products and easy to work with. www.theedgephoto.com.au
Added my 3 votes here. No reasonable human would buy a small print with such shipping price. Only digital or big prints (which unfortunately do not occur too often). This really hurts sales.

You mentioned you would have a Australian years ago. My customers are complaining about $50.00 plus postage fees for relatively small orders. The lack of a Australian printer is costing me money.
Please, please, please add an Australian Print Lab. I want to stay but I will have to go if you don't - I too have been waiting patiently. :(

This subject has been discussed since 2010 without any resolution in sight. A lack of Australian print lab (and the awful implementation of client gallery downloads) is having a business impact. I'm beginning to regret migrating my site from my previous provider who had an Australian print lab solution (and a good gallery download option).
I've just joined SM as a Power user, for the second time, and I noticed all your comments about printing. Why can't you just turn that feature off and ask people to email you for an a quote?
My real issue is there lack of a decent Help System. I can't even setup my Home page as yet. Is there a decent manual. The Heros DO NOT KNOW how to convey instructions ina step by step methodical way- They may know the system but a NEWBIE does not! I've wasted so much time over the last 4 days and I'm getting ****** off.
Sorry about the rant
Any word when Smugmug will allow printing in Australia? I thought this was in the plan ages ago and have been patiently waiting for years. The systems are already in place, can you please add a printer such as Nulab!
Otherwise going to have to change my Smugmug account to Zenfolio :(
come on smug mug, we really need a print fulfilment lab in Australia. Any news on this. We have just done a promotion with some of our US customers, lots of print orders, but when we try to do the local oz market, we get no orders because of the high shipping costs.

Really need a lab in Australia...or an option that keeps international shipping costs down...current options are making the product uncompetitive.
not sure about international printing...I know the last thing I ordered was actually printed in Indonesia...and shipping was negligible and quick....Labs or products originating in the USA seem to have high cost and slow shipping.
This appears to be deal breaker for me.
For local market especially...I'm best to organise printing and delivery myself.
I'm waiting for an Australian lab to register. A $50 overhead for shipping is not worth considering for me...
Ive mentioned this to Chris McAskill, to make Smugmug Feasable in Australia for expansion , you really need an Australian Printer
How many Australia based users are using Smugmug? Just wondering if the number is large enough to justify printing done in Australia?
Seriously takes 5 years to get a printer in Australia?? Here .. NULABS done! Seriously considering leaving!!
The avis printing provides good quality printing in australia and they provides all type of printing works, envelop printing, book printing etc.
how are you? I was just wondering in your past 4 -5 years of experience using Smugmug, did you have clients who end up not buying your images because of the high shipping cost from USA? And how many of them who bought the prints return to buy more regardless of the shipping cost? I haven't switch on the shopping card feature yet as I am still in the process of setting my business. I'm interested in your thoughts on this matter.

I been using Smugmug since 2010 and they been saying about a printer in AU since then... but, nothing happen...
Is that hard to source a printer down under?
Aaron, thank you for your very quick response. If you have read all the posts in this forum, I think there's a business case here to present to the management. There have been requests from Australian customers since 2010, that's 4 years. Yes, most of the efforts spent a while ago was on the new web site. Now that's it's up and running, I think it's time to consider your Australian customers. You can start "Lean", have one or two Australian printers. Test it out and see how much orders are being generated from Australian potential clients. Otherwise, most people will take Howard's suggestion. I believe having Australian printers are a WIN WIN situation.

Time to vote with our feet I think.
